Dr. Felipe Chavez-Ramirez, B.S., M.Sc., is Director of Conservation Programs at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, whose research has focused on ecology and conservation issues of North American Cranes especially Whooping Cranes, Sandhill and Cuban Sandhill Cranes. A specialist in ecology and the conservation of birds, his work experience has included stints at the Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust, the World Wildlife Fund, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and Texas A&M Kingsville and College Station. He has published more than 40 scientific articles and presented more than 50 seminars and presentations.  As a member of the US-Canada Whooping Crane Recovery Team, his research and knowledge of cranes will enlighten the audience about these endangered and rare birds.
