Richard Beilfuss is the Vice President-Head of Programs for the International Crane Foundation (ICF) in Baraboo, Wisconsin. He first joined ICF in 1988, conducting his graduate field research in Vietnam and Mozambique, and then directed the ICF Africa Program from 1993-2005. Over that time period, he was involved in ICF conservation and research projects in more than 12 countries in Africa, as well as Vietnam, China, and Nepal, focusing especially on water management for people and wildlife. In his current position, Dr. Beilfuss is responsible for strategic planning and operational management of ICF conservation programs around the globe, while also leading efforts to ameliorate the impact of large dams and water diversions on cranes, wetlands, and people in Africa and Asia.
In addition to his duties at ICF , Rich is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and also at the University of Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, where he enjoys teaching courses and supervising students.
Dr. Beilfuss has a PhD in Land Resources (Plant Ecology and Hydrology), a Masters Degree in Engineering, a Masters Degree in Water Resources Management , and a Bachelors degree in Natural Resource Economics. He is a Licensed Professional Hydrologist.
